Parent Testimonials
Developmental approach “I am the parent of two children, one a current Camellia Waldorf middle schooler and one alumnus. One thing I have greatly appreciated over the years is that, at Camellia, my kids’ academic, developmental, and emotional needs have been met as they progressed through the grades. Camellia has been the “right choice” for both my kids, even though their individual needs were and continue to be quite distinct. This is because the kids are seen and treated as the individuals they are. Although it has been financially challenging at times, sending my children to Camellia Waldorf School has been one of the best parenting decisions I have made.” - Camellia parent since 1998
Student achievement “Camellia Waldorf is an excellent school that fosters imagination, creativity, discipline, and independent thought. The parents and teachers form a supportive community of adults, looking out for the well-being of all the children. Although art, music, and movement are stressed, they are tools for learning, not the ends themselves. The graduates from the eighth grade have been able to go into the high school of their choice and have excelled in the sciences as well as the humanities. Our children learn about tolerance and acceptance of all world cultures. Spirituality, not religion, is promoted, as the Waldorf philosophy believes in the education of the whole child, body, mind, spirit, and heart. As the student body is small, each child is given individualized attention and allowed to progress at their own pace without outside artificial pressures and standards. Yet these children score well on standardized testing.” - Camellia parent
Educating the whole child "The reason that we enrolled our daughter at Camellia Waldorf School is because we were looking for a place where we felt a teacher would see our child, not just her grades. We come from a European background and we never agreed with the idea that reading and math were the only subjects a child had to get great grades in order to succeed in life. We found that the teachers at Camellia have fostered all aspects of our child. They saw her humor before we noticed it. They nurtured her in such a way that people who now meet our 13 year old are amazed at what a marvelously interesting person she is becoming. Clearly a person with a good heart, social awareness, smart in her academics, good at sports, balanced in many ways! On top of that, throughout the years, our whole family has taken on volunteering jobs in the school. These jobs have expanded us; they have allowed us to grow in many new ways. Who would have known that we would put together festivals, be on the school board, helping out in the classes, doing yard work, organizing, helping and supporting the faculty? In short, it has been a great experience for the whole family. - Camellia family since 2001
Child-centered environment “The longer our children have been in Waldorf education, the more we appreciate the beauty of this philosophy. We have seen our children thrive in this environment. The education coincides with the development of the child, so concepts are not forced on children before they are ready. Waldorf education develops a well rounded person who is exposed to all aspects of life. It nurtures creativity and problem solving skills that they will use to prosper in all life's endeavors.” - Camellia parent since 2001
