Thursday, February 25:
Walk Through the Grades, 8:15 a.m.

Visit several grades during Main Lesson. Please register in advance by calling 916-427-5022, ext. 13. This group tour is intended for parents only. If you are not able to arrange childcare, contact our Director of Admissions to schedule a private appointment.

Main Lesson, the first two hours of each grade school day, is designed to immerse the child in a subject theme over a period of three to four weeks. A four-week block of, for example, history will become an artistic and imaginative learning process supported by activities such as the recitation of poetry, singing, drawing, and writing - all integrated with the theme - as well as the daily recalling and discussing of the content given by the teacher the day before. It is during Main Lesson that Reading and Writing, Science, Mathematics, History and Geography are taught by the Class Teacher. In the lower grades, the amount of time the children spend in writing at their desks is proportionately small as compared to artistic activity and physical movement. The reverse is true as the child matures into the upper grades.

Saturday, February 27:

Poems, songs, circle games, fairy tales and nature stories provide a foundation for reading. Grade School Concert - Twice a year Camellia holds a special kind of gathering: the grade school concerts. The children in grades Two through Eight will don their finest clothes and join parents, friends, and grandparents to celebrate the students' work. These offerings may include recitations, songs, eurythmy, and instrumental music.

The grade school concerts are an opportunity for members of the community to see the progression of work through the grades and to see the development of the children. Children in the lower grades look up to the "big kids" and what is coming in the years ahead, while children in upper grades enjoy remembering songs and poems from their early years.

Our Spring Concert is scheduled for Friday, June 2, at the 24th Street Theater located at 2791 24th St. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and should last about one and a half hours.

Please register in advance by calling 916-427-5022 ext. 13.

Please join us for the 21st Annual Winter Faire and Children's Festival.

When: Saturday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: 5701 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento.

Imagine a Winter Wonderland with holiday crafts and puppet shows, King Winter in all his finery, local artists and craftspeople coming together to showcase their wares, warm nourishing food and live local music. Now where do you imagine such a magical event to take place? If you guessed a small strip mall next to the executive airport, you're right!

For over 20 years the Camellia Waldorf School has opened its doors to the public for their annual Winter Faire. This heartwarming event offers so much, especially during this economic time when we are encouraged to support our local communities more than ever. The Winter Faire can be an all day event, a quick visit to purchase your holiday tree and wreaths, or time to stop and listen to all the glorious music and just relax with friends.

This year the school is offering some truly unique experiences. The 3rd grade is hosting a "Best Soup in Sacramento" contest open to local restaurateurs who will come and show off their creative soup making skills. Then, the soup and lots more delicious food will be available to keep everyone fortified. The 8th grade is baking up a storm to offer treats appeasing every sweet tooth. The 5th grade will be showing off their circus arts skills to amuse and entertain. After spending time browsing and holiday shopping in the Village Shoppes area, tired parents can unwind with a chair massage while their children take in a craft, kid's yoga class, or puppet show. Be inspired by the Gingerbread Creations display dreamed up by Sacramento-area builders, architects and housing developers, then make your own to take home.
